The House of Representatives has urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to take immediate action in response to the devastating wind and rainstorm that struck the Jeddo, Ugbokodo, and Ughoton communities in Delta State on April 15, 2025.
During a session in Abuja, Rep. Benedict Etanabene called the incident “unprecedented,” highlighting the widespread destruction that has left thousands homeless and critical infrastructure in ruins. He reported that over 2,000 houses were damaged, with essential services like electricity and telecommunications severely disrupted.
Etanabene expressed concern for the displaced residents, many of whom lack shelter and basic necessities. He emphasized the urgent need for aid, including shelter, building materials, medical assistance, and financial support.
The House resolved to:
- Urge NEMA to conduct a post-disaster assessment.
- Call for emergency relief materials for the victims.
- Mandate the House Committee on Emergency and Disaster Management to ensure compliance and monitor the implementation of these resolutions.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the House.
