The Senate has criticized Pastor Tunde Bakare for his recent comments regarding the 10th National Assembly, stating he has “crossed the line.” The reaction came in a statement from Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Bakare, who previously contested for the presidential ticket against President Bola Tinubu, accused the Assembly of being a “haven for legislative rascality” during his Easter State-of-the-Nation broadcast. He also condemned the emergency rule in Rivers State and the National Assembly’s support for it, expressing concerns over increasing insecurity in states like Plateau, Benue, and Enugu.

Adaramodu described Bakare’s remarks as politically charged and biased, asserting that the National Assembly will not respond to matters currently in court to uphold the rule of law. He criticized Bakare for casting aspersions on the institution based on personal frustrations and urged for a more constructive discourse.

While acknowledging Bakare’s right to express his views, the Senate emphasized that his comments were unsubstantiated and unfairly misleading to the public. Adaramodu noted instances where the National Assembly has disagreed with the executive, countering Bakare’s claims about legislative performance.

Concluding, he called for national dialogue grounded in truth and mutual respect, stressing the importance of unity in addressing the country’s challenges. The Senate remains open to engaging with all citizens, including Pastor Bakare, for constructive discussions.
