Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has pledged the full support of his administration for the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC), emphasizing its vital role in tackling pressing issues such as regional security, poverty, and infrastructure deficits.
During a meeting with the NWDC management team at the Kano Government House, Governor Yusuf addressed the significant hardships faced by the North West, including high levels of insecurity, food shortages, and economic malaise. He underscored the necessity for urgent collective efforts to tackle these challenges.
The governor expressed that the establishment of the NWDC comes at a critical time, highlighting its potential to alleviate poverty, combat hunger, and enhance security in the region.
To facilitate the NWDC’s operations, Governor Yusuf announced the allocation of land for its headquarters at the site of the former Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) station along Maiduguri Road. He stated, “I visited the site at night to assess its suitability, and I am pleased to officially hand over the allocation documents today.”
In response, NWDC Chairman Lawal Ismail praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment to development, noting that the governor prioritizes the welfare of his constituents over political considerations. “Kano is the economic and political hub of the North and Nigeria as a whole, and our role as a commission is to support and complement the government’s development agenda,” Ismail added.
Governor Yusuf reiterated Kano’s dedication to collaborating with the NWDC and urged all stakeholders to unify in addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges. “We must work together to overcome the North West’s difficulties. Through strong collaboration between the state government, the commission, and the people, we can create a better future for our region,” he concluded.
