Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), has expressed profound sorrow and sympathy for the victims of the recent fuel tanker explosion in Enugu State. The tragic incident resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, prompting Ugochinyere to issue a heartfelt statement on Sunday.

The lawmaker, representing the Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, lamented the recurrence of such tragedies, noting that this incident occurred just a week after a similar explosion in Niger State claimed over 80 lives. He extended his condolences to the families affected and expressed prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.

Ugochinyere highlighted the urgent need for legislative action to prevent future occurrences of tanker explosions. He indicated his intention to sponsor a bill aimed at regulating the movement of petrol tankers at night, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding road users during both day and night.

In his statement, Ugochinyere described the recent explosion, which took place along the 9th Mile 82 Division Expressway, as a “horrific tragedy.” He called upon government officials at all levels to take decisive measures to avert such incidents in the future, underscoring the need for comprehensive safety regulations regarding the transportation of petroleum products.
