The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has criticised former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his allegation that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, is planning to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, the CCII described Fayose’s claim as misleading, provocative, and a dangerous attempt to politicise traditional institutions. The council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, warned that such remarks could incite unrest in a city known for its strong cultural heritage and respect for tradition.

Fayose had earlier alleged that Makinde was plotting to depose Ladoja, claiming the process would begin with a government query over the monarch’s absence at a recent coronation event. His statement sparked widespread reactions across the state.

Reacting, the CCII insisted that the allegation lacked credibility and should be disregarded. The group stressed that matters concerning the Olubadan stool follow a well-established process that cannot be influenced by political speculation.

Ajewole cautioned Fayose against making statements capable of creating tension, urging him to refrain from dragging Ibadan into unnecessary controversy. He also maintained that the former governor had no role in the traditional or political affairs of Ibadanland.

The council further expressed confidence in Makinde, describing him as a leader who would not undermine the revered institution of the Olubadan.

Similarly, a media aide to the monarch dismissed the claim, stating there was no rift between the governor and the traditional ruler. The Oyo State government also denied any plan to remove Ladoja, describing the allegation as baseless.

The CCII reaffirmed its commitment to preserving peace, unity, and the integrity of traditional institutions in Ibadanland, urging political actors nationwide to exercise caution in their public statements.
