Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has asserted that Abdullahi Ganduje cannot issue directives to him, maintaining that he is the recognized leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The governor made this clarification while addressing supporters amid criticism following his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC. He rejected claims that his move amounted to betrayal, insisting that his decision was necessitated by internal crises within the NNPP.
According to him, concerns were previously raised about the state of affairs in the party but were disregarded, prompting his eventual departure. He argued that the early decision to leave helped avert broader political instability in Kano State.
Yusuf also dismissed accusations of abandoning the Kwankwasiyya Movement, questioning whether those who earlier left the NNPP had consulted its members, and suggesting that such actions equally amounted to betrayal.
During the engagement, he sought affirmation from supporters regarding leadership of the APC in the state, reinforcing his stance that he now occupies that position.
While acknowledging a relationship of mutual respect with Ganduje, Yusuf emphasized that such respect does not translate into subordination, reiterating that he remains in charge of party affairs in Kano State and cannot be dictated to.
