The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has cautioned content creators against disseminating misleading or panic-inducing information, following the arrest of an individual linked to a viral video alleging a terrorist invasion of Abuja.

According to the police authorities, the suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, was apprehended after a video circulated widely on social media falsely claiming that terrorists had infiltrated the nation’s capital and that gunfire was ongoing in parts of the city.

The police disclosed that the video triggered public concern and required immediate investigation. Through forensic analysis, law enforcement officials were able to trace the origin of the content to the suspect, who was subsequently arrested in Bwari within the FCT.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to fabricating the video with the intention of increasing his following on the social media platform TikTok.

Sanusi emphasized that the command possesses the technical capacity to identify and track individuals responsible for spreading false information, warning that such conduct constitutes a serious offence.

He further stressed that false claims of terrorist activity are capable of inciting public panic and undermining security efforts, urging content creators to exercise responsibility and verify information before publication.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and indicated that individuals found culpable of spreading misinformation would face legal consequences.
