The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has accused authorities of mounting sustained political pressure against former governor Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition figures in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing, a party chieftain and former Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sani-Bello, said the party was deeply concerned about what it described as politically motivated actions capable of undermining democratic principles.
According to the ADC, recent developments involving El-Rufai are not isolated but part of a broader effort to weaken his political influence. The party cited several issues, including his exclusion from a recent ministerial appointment, ongoing proceedings at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and the arrest and detention of some of his associates.
The ADC named individuals it claimed have been affected, including Bashir Saidu, Ja’afar Ibrahim Sani, Jimi A. Lawal, and Aisha Galadima.
The party further alleged that key anti-graft and security agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Department of State Services, are being deployed in a manner that suggests selective enforcement.
It argued that incidents such as prolonged detention, alterations to bail conditions, and what it termed legal harassment point to a political agenda rather than legitimate law enforcement actions.
The party warned that such developments, if left unchecked, could erode democratic norms and political plurality in the state.
