The Government of Canada has announced an increase in application fees for permanent residency and citizenship, affecting Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to live in the country.
The new charges will come into effect on April 30, 2026, according to an official notice issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Authorities said the adjustment is part of routine updates aimed at sustaining efficient service delivery and keeping up with inflationary pressures.
In its statement, IRCC explained that applications submitted on or after the effective date will attract the revised fees.
Under the new structure, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will rise from $575 to $600, representing a $25 increase. The Provincial Nominee Programme fee will also increase from $950 to $990.
Applicants under the Business Class category will now pay $1,895, up from $1,810, while Family Class applications will increase from $545 to $570.
Similarly, fees for Protected Persons and applicants under Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds or Public Policy measures will rise from $635 to $660.
Permit holders will see a modest increase from $375 to $390.
For citizenship applications, the Right of Citizenship Fee has been adjusted from $119.75 to $123, effective March 31, 2026, reflecting an approximate 2.7 per cent increase.
IRCC noted that permanent residence fees are reviewed every two years under existing immigration regulations to reflect programme costs and growing demand.
The agency maintained that the latest adjustment is necessary to ensure the continued delivery of timely and reliable immigration services.
