Governor Charles Soludo has declared Anambra State the safest state in Nigeria, reporting no major incidents in the past four months. Speaking from the state capital, Awka, Soludo highlighted that over 60 criminal camps have been dismantled and normalcy restored to eight local governments previously affected by criminal activities.
The governor noted that the sit-at-home orders enforced by the Indigenous People of Biafra no longer affect Anambra, with schools, markets, factories, and public services fully operational. Flights to the state have resumed, further reflecting improved security conditions.
Soludo attributed these gains to institutional reforms and new legislation targeting touting, cultism, and other security threats, alongside the creation of specialized security outfits, including Agunechemba and Ugodachi.
Reflecting on the state he inherited in 2022, Soludo recalled the threats residents faced, including risks associated with displaying political party colors or driving branded vehicles during elections. Despite the progress, he emphasized that perfect security is unattainable, describing it as a “work in progress.”
