Iran has claimed responsibility for a strike on a United States naval facility in Bahrain, saying the attack was part of a broader retaliation against ongoing military operations carried out by the US and Israel.
Plumes of smoke were reported near the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, home to Naval Support Activity Bahrain. While Iranian forces said the base was targeted, there has been no immediate confirmation from US authorities regarding the extent of any damage.
The operation was reportedly carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as part of what it described as “Truthful Promise 4,” a response to joint US-Israeli strikes launched earlier against Iranian-linked sites. Those earlier attacks were said to have focused on areas tied to Iran’s leadership and strategic infrastructure.
Missile activity was also reported across the wider Middle East. Authorities in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Kuwait — all of which host US military installations — said their air defence systems intercepted missiles fired toward their territories. Qatar confirmed that projectiles were aimed at Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the region.
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide as the military reported multiple waves of incoming missiles from Iran, with interception efforts underway. Jordanian officials said two ballistic missiles targeting their territory were shot down, with no casualties recorded.
Iran’s Foreign Minister condemned the US and Israeli actions as unlawful and unprovoked, warning that Tehran was prepared to respond firmly. The exchange marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, raising fears of a broader conflict involving multiple Middle Eastern states hosting American military assets.
