The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has affirmed the validity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in the state on November 15, 2025.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled in a suit filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi and granted the reliefs sought by the claimant through his counsel.
In the certified true copy of the judgment, the court held that the PDP met the conditions required to conduct its national convention, whether or not it was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The judge resolved all issues raised in the suit in favour of the claimant and declared that once convened, the convention was properly constituted and its outcomes binding on all relevant authorities and persons.
The defendants in the case included the PDP, its National Chairman Umar Damagum, and Governor Umar Fintiri of Adamawa State.
The claimant had sought an interim injunction to prevent any action capable of disrupting or stopping the scheduled convention, as well as an order directing the party leadership to comply with its guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities.
The case was part of a series of conflicting court rulings surrounding the convention. While the Oyo court earlier ordered the party to proceed with the event, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued restraining orders shortly before the convention took place.
During the convention, new national officers were elected, including the national chairman and members of the National Working Committee.
However, a subsequent Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan nullified the convention and barred the elected officials from presenting themselves as party leaders.
The latest ruling further deepens the ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership and convention.
