Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has urged Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop harbouring what he described as anti-Atiku sentiments.
Momodu made the appeal in a post on X while reacting to a video interview in which George criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for allegedly placing personal ambition above party interests.
In the interview, conducted in Yoruba, George faulted Atiku’s continued presidential bid, insisting that his ambition should not outweigh the broader interests of Nigeria. He also suggested that Atiku’s move to the ADC was driven by his determination to secure the party’s presidential ticket.
Responding, Momodu called on the PDP elder statesman to moderate his position, stressing that Atiku has a constitutional right to contest, just as others have the freedom not to support him.
“It is his right to contest, Sir, while it is your right not to support him,” Momodu wrote, adding that Atiku has never bragged about his political aspirations.
Momodu further argued that Atiku’s exit from the PDP was influenced by internal tensions, blaming the growing influence of Nyesom Wike on the party’s stability.
He concluded by reminding Nigerians that democracy guarantees the freedom to choose leaders at the polls, urging that Atiku should be allowed to pursue his ambitions without hostility.
