The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a fresh warning to Nigerians over visa fraud and overstays, cautioning that such violations could trigger stricter scrutiny for other applicants seeking entry into the United States.
In a post shared on X, the mission stressed that individuals who attempt to manipulate the visa process risk undermining opportunities for legitimate travellers. It noted that the US maintains a rigorous screening system and that consular officers treat fraud-related cases with utmost seriousness.
The mission encouraged Nigerians to report suspected visa fraud to appropriate authorities, emphasizing that protecting the integrity of the visa system is a shared responsibility. It also acknowledged that many Nigerians continue to engage legally with the US as students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and temporary workers.
Earlier this month, the mission similarly highlighted that repeated overstays by a minority of Nigerian travellers remain a key factor influencing visa decisions. It said compliance with visa terms helps safeguard access for students, business visitors, and families who abide by immigration rules.
