The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have expressed strong opposition to proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, calling instead for reforms that guarantee full electronic transmission of election results.

The opposition parties, in separate reactions, warned that any attempt to alter the Electoral Act in a manner that weakens transparency could undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

They maintained that the credibility of future elections depends largely on the enforcement of technology-driven measures, particularly the electronic transfer of results directly from polling units.

According to the parties, e-transmission remains one of the most effective safeguards against manipulation, delays, and interference in collation processes, and should be made mandatory in the country’s electoral framework.

The parties also urged the National Assembly to prioritise reforms that strengthen democratic accountability rather than introduce changes that could reverse the gains recorded in recent electoral cycles.

They further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue expanding the deployment of election technology, including the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), to ensure credible and verifiable outcomes.

The debate over amendments to the Electoral Act has continued to generate national attention, as stakeholders push for electoral reforms ahead of upcoming political contests.
