Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that the new tax laws, which came into effect in January, have not been adulterated. He made this statement during the Senate plenary, refuting claims that alternative versions of the laws were in circulation.
Akpabio explained that the circulating versions did not align with the official proceedings of the Senate. “There is no adulteration. You can confidently disregard any contrary claims,” he stated.
He confirmed that four tax reform acts have been successfully gazetted, signed by the President, and certified by the Clerk of the National Assembly to prevent confusion.
To ensure clarity, Akpabio directed the Clerk of the Senate to distribute gazetted copies of the Tax Reform Acts to all senators, emphasizing that only authorized personnel should handle the distribution.
Additionally, the Senate deferred the consideration of the Committee on Electoral Matters report to allow lawmakers more time to review it. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele noted that the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Simon Lalong, was unavailable, suggesting that a brief closed-door session would be held to discuss key aspects of the report in the future.
Akpabio highlighted the importance of a thorough review process, stating, “We will take our time and do the needful, ensuring justice is served for all.”
