Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, has denied allegations that he claimed to be a target of US airstrikes aimed at terrorists in Sokoto State. In a post on his official Facebook page, Gumi clarified that a viral video had misrepresented his earlier remarks concerning a threat from the Boko Haram sect, which he faced in 2012.
Gumi emphasized that he currently does not perceive any threats to his life. He explained that his previous comments related to a past incident, where he had been informed about an assassination plot against him by Boko Haram operatives. He recounted that the attackers died when their bomb detonated near his home.
In his statement, Gumi called for news organizations to retract their claims and issue apologies for spreading misinformation, stating, “I never said so, and I also never thought of such a possibility. I am comfortably staying in my home with my family without fear, intimidation, or apprehension.”
He urged the media to verify facts before reporting, highlighting the importance of accuracy in journalism.
