Kingsley Moghalu, former CBN deputy governor; Chidi Odinkalu, ex-chairman of the National Human Rights Commission; and Dino Melaye, former senator, have reacted to the arraignment of Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, over 16 counts of alleged money laundering.
Moghalu tweeted that the case highlights the fleeting nature of power in Nigeria, warning that public office, detached from competence and integrity, is no shield from accountability. “When people carry on in office like tomorrow will never arrive, the hunters will become the hunted,” he wrote.
Odinkalu recalled Malami’s role in forcing the former EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu, out of office, contrasting it with Malami’s current charges. “May justice happen to him,” he said, hoping Malami receives the fair trial he did not extend to others.
Melaye, who was prosecuted during Malami’s tenure as AGF, said the arraignment reminded him of his own legal battles under Malami’s watch.
Malami, along with his son and one of his wives, will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until January 2, when the court will hear their bail application.
