The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced January 14, 2026, as the date for a nationwide protest against the Federal Government’s planned implementation of the new Tax Reform Laws.
In a statement on Wednesday, NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, expressed loss of confidence in the economic and fiscal advisers of President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of pushing the country toward an avoidable national crisis.
Oladoja criticised the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr Zacch Adedeji, describing his handling of stakeholder engagement and implementation plans as incompetent and poorly managed.
He warned that proceeding with the implementation of the tax laws from January 1, 2026, despite concerns raised by the National Assembly, civil society groups and student bodies, would worsen economic hardship and undermine democratic principles.
Consequently, NANS declared January 14 as a National Day of Action, calling on all student bodies nationwide to mobilise for a peaceful protest and march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
