Troops from the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating from Forward Operating Base Ikang, have successfully rescued eight civilians kidnapped along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways. The operation was conducted following credible intelligence from local community members, who reported that militants had intercepted a commercial boat, abducting six adults and two minors.

Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, announced the operation via the Nigerian Army’s official X account. Upon receiving the information, troops swiftly pursued the kidnappers, blocked escape routes, and secured the waterways. Consequently, the militants abandoned their hostages at Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into nearby creeks and high seas.

The rescued civilians were documented and released without any reported casualties. Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, Commander of the 13 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and quick response, while also thanking the local community for their vital intelligence.

He reassured the public that the Brigade would maintain aggressive patrols to deter further criminal activities in the region and encouraged residents to continue providing timely information to support security efforts.

This successful operation underscores the importance of community cooperation in combating crime and ensuring safety. The military is committed to disrupting kidnapping activities and securing the safety of civilians in the area.
