Six serving lawmakers from Zamfara State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged constitutional breaches and feelings of marginalisation within their former party.

The group, which includes both members of the State House of Assembly and federal legislators, announced their switch to the APC on Thursday, December 25, 2025. In a joint statement, the lawmakers said their decision was driven by a desire to align with a party that they believe upholds constitutional order and offers greater inclusivity in legislative affairs.

They accused the PDP of sidelining their voices on key issues affecting their constituencies and claimed that the party’s internal dynamics had impeded their ability to effectively represent their constituents.

“We have resolved to decamp to the All Progressives Congress due to persistent constitutional breaches and continuous marginalisation in legislative matters,” the lawmakers said. “Our defection is in the best interest of our people and will enhance our ability to deliver dividends of democracy.”

The defectors were received by key APC leaders in Zamfara, who expressed optimism that their move would strengthen the party’s presence in the state ahead of future elections. APC chieftains welcomed the lawmakers, describing the development as a boost to the party’s legislative agenda and unity.

Political analysts say the defections could shift the balance of power in Zamfara’s political landscape, where party loyalty and alliances have significant implications for governance and resource distribution.

The lawmakers also urged their constituents to remain supportive as they transition to the APC, promising continued service and constituency-focused representation under their new party platform.
