Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, has criticized the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for lacking the political will to effectively address insecurity in Nigeria. Speaking at the passing-out parade for 2,000 newly recruited watchmen under the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for proper equipping and training of security agencies.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s historical peacekeeping efforts abroad, he lamented that the same troops have struggled to resolve domestic security issues. He urged the government to provide necessary resources, including arms and ammunition, to strengthen the military’s capabilities.
Kwankwaso also called for the integration of trained youths from several northern states into the national security framework to combat banditry effectively. He proposed that Nigeria requires a significant increase in military personnel to address the growing insecurity.
While acknowledging the persistent violence and kidnappings nationwide, he expressed hope that the establishment of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps would contribute to restoring peace in vulnerable communities.
