A recent announcement revealed that Ghana deported 42 Nigerians from its Ashanti Region due to various criminal activities, including allegations of prostitution and fraud. This development came from a Facebook post by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene.
In total, 68 foreign nationals were affected, including 13 from Cameroon, 3 from Ivory Coast, 3 from Burkina Faso, and 7 from Benin. Amoakohene commended the Ghana Immigration Service for its diligence and commitment to upholding immigration laws while maintaining human dignity.
This deportation aligns with a broader trend of increased scrutiny and arrests of Nigerians overseas. For instance, a recent crackdown in India resulted in the arrest of over 50 Nigerians linked to a narcotics network.
The minister highlighted the importance of collaboration between immigration authorities, the courts, and security agencies to ensure public safety and preserve law and order in the region. This incident points to the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian nationals abroad and the measures taken by foreign governments to enforce immigration regulations.
