The Imo State Government has shut down a hotel and a privately run mortuary in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala, following the discovery of decomposed and mutilated bodies believed to be connected to kidnapping and possible organ harvesting.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, was led by the State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, as part of intensified security actions along the Owerri–Aba Expressway. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the raid was prompted by credible intelligence tracing criminal activities to a suspected gang leader, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who is still on the run.
Security operatives inspected the hotel and mortuary allegedly linked to the suspect and reportedly discovered several corpses in disturbing and unhygienic conditions. Authorities say the facilities were being used by criminal elements, raising serious concerns about organ trafficking.
Both the hotel and mortuary were immediately sealed on the directive of the state government. Police also searched the suspect’s residence, where key exhibits were recovered to aid further investigation. The command has since declared Oparaugo wanted and urged residents to volunteer useful information.
