Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, referring to it as “a dead party” following their remarks on Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first year in office. Speaking to reporters in Benin, Oshiomhole questioned why the media still cites the PDP, urging them to focus on verifiable facts from events across the state instead of unsubstantiated claims.

He highlighted the PDP’s failure to deliver significant results during its tenure, noting that it often resorted to ceremonial events that bore little fruit. Oshiomhole emphasized that Governor Okpebholo has undertaken meaningful projects, such as the ongoing construction of a flyover at Ramat Park to alleviate congestion in key transport corridors.

Oshiomhole stated, “The economic value of reduced travel time and less fuel wastage cannot be overstated.” He dismissed claims that road projects underway are mere political propaganda, asserting they are tangible signs of the current administration’s commitment to development.

On the education front, Oshiomhole criticized the previous government’s neglect, stating that many schools were left with insufficient teachers and dilapidated facilities. He reported that the Okpebholo administration is now rehabilitating schools to improve learning conditions.

Furthermore, he praised the increased funding for higher education institutions, asserting that investments in Ambrose Alli University and Edo University, Iyamho, have stabilized these institutions after prolonged disruptions.

Oshiomhole also addressed past tensions within the Benin Kingdom caused by the previous administration’s actions regarding traditional rulers, expressing satisfaction that normalcy has returned under Governor Okpebholo.

Regarding federal matters, Oshiomhole reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for critical infrastructure projects in Edo State, specifically mentioning the reconstruction of the Benin-Auchi-Okene road, which was in poor condition.

He recalled that his first motion in the Senate sought urgent attention for the road, now under construction thanks to efforts with President Bola Tinubu to secure additional funding.

Oshiomhole concluded by reiterating his dedication to improving Edo State and ensuring effective governance.
