The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025. The materials arrived at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Awka and were distributed under tight security supervision.

Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, emphasized the importance of early distribution to ensure all materials reach their designated locations ahead of the election. She reassured citizens that INEC is fully prepared for a credible electoral process.

At the CBN premises, party agents monitored the sorting and distribution of critical materials, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and various election forms, with security personnel overseeing the operations. Dr. Agwu encouraged voters to participate actively, urging them not to assume that their votes would not count.

In a move to bolster security for the election, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abayomi Shogunle, announced an increase in security personnel from 45,000 to 55,000. This deployment aims to ensure safety at polling units and to reassure voters. Shogunle clarified that the reinforcement is intended to facilitate effective operations and protect voters and electoral officials, stating that at least three officers will be stationed at every polling unit.

INEC has confirmed that 16 candidates from various political parties will contest the governorship election, including the incumbent, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who is seeking re-election. The commission has coordinated arrangements with political parties, security agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure a smooth electoral process.

As the election date approaches, INEC and security agencies are emphasizing the importance of a free, fair, and peaceful election, encouraging all eligible voters to come out and make their voices heard.
