The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated as the faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, led by suspended national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, insisted that the national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan will not proceed.
This stance comes in response to a court ruling from Oyo State permitting the convention to convene. The Anyanwu camp expressed their position amid the establishment of a reconciliation committee by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) to address the internal split.
The BoT, after an emergency meeting, directed the Reconciliation Committee to report back on November 11, 2025. They reaffirmed support for the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) and emphasized the right of the party to manage its affairs, including holding the convention.
Anyanwu’s team rejected the Ibadan convention, arguing that a Federal High Court ruling supersedes the Oyo State court order, which they claim is temporary. They criticized the BoT meeting as one-sided and unrepresentative.
The BoT’s chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, underscored the importance of unity and dialogue within the party, stressing that their reconciliation efforts should not be seen as weakness but as a commitment to stability as the convention approaches.
