Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Dan Ulasi, expressed his support for the potential return of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general election. Speaking on Arise Television, Ulasi emphasized that Obi’s credibility and popularity could significantly enhance the party’s electoral prospects.
He stated, “I’ll be happy if he joins PDP because he will bring his credibility to bear on the party as we are reorganising. Any party that has him today will know they already have more than 30 to 40 percent of the election because he has tremendous support across this country.”
Ulasi acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Obi’s political future, noting that he currently lacks a platform after leaving the Labour Party. He mentioned that Obi had attended the launching of the ADC but questioned what his next political move would be.
On the topic of zoning for the 2027 presidential ticket, Ulasi called for fairness, advocating for a micro-zoning to the South-East, arguing that this region has yet to produce a Nigerian president. He stressed the importance of rebuilding the PDP, sharing that recent executive meetings have focused on reorganizing the party for future elections.
Obi, who served as Governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014 and was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in 2019, gained significant youth support during his campaign in the 2023 elections as the Labour Party candidate.
