The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. They warn that such a decision could negatively impact support among northern Muslim voters.

The statement, issued in Abuja on Saturday by Forum Chairman Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, highlights concerns raised by political stakeholders about the current Muslim-Muslim ticket. Critics argue that this pairing contributed to electoral challenges in some northern states during the 2023 elections.

The North-Central APC Forum defended the existing ticket, stating it was a strategic choice that does not disregard religious representation. They pointed out that key positions in the administration are held by prominent Christians from the Middle Belt, including APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket will not affect President Tinubu’s chances in the Middle Belt. With key positions held by Middle Belt Christians, we believe the region will continue to support his leadership,” the Forum stated. They emphasized that the President’s performance will be the ultimate factor in securing support.

The Forum advised against any changes to the current political structure, suggesting that altering the team could create uncertainty within the party. They concluded that maintaining the current leadership would best consolidate the gains made thus far.
