The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and the parents of Aisha Muhammad, a teenage girl recently kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, have appealed to the military to expedite efforts for her release. Aisha was abducted during an attack on the Kirawa community, which resulted in casualties among soldiers and the displacement of many residents.
According to Yakubu Kirawa, Chairman of the Kirawa Development Association, the attackers set fire to houses, shops, and vehicles during the assault. He recounted that the incident occurred around 9:30 PM, with heavy gunfire exchanged between the terrorists and the Multi-Joint Task Force present in the area. Aisha was taken during the chaos, and many residents fled to Cameroon for safety.
Aisha’s mother, Amina Bukar, has expressed her anguish, appealing for help to prevent her daughter’s case from becoming another tragedy like that of Leah Sharibu, who was abducted in 2018 and remains in captivity. She described Aisha as the family’s only hope after recently completing her junior secondary education.
Her father, Mohammed Aja, also called for immediate action from the government to rescue their daughter. Aisha’s former class teacher, Buba Aji, praised her character and dedication to learning, confirming her recent completion of her exams.
Local residents have shared their fears and desires for peace, urging the government to assist in recovering Aisha and ensuring safety in their community. Yerima Shettima, National President of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, condemned the abduction and called for decisive military action to secure Aisha’s release and address the ongoing threat posed by the insurgents.
The community remains hopeful for Aisha’s safe return and is calling for the government to take more decisive steps in addressing the insurgency and rescuing those still held captive.
