Supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, known as the Obidients, have vowed to oppose any attempts to prevent Obi from appearing on the 2027 presidential ballot. This comes in response to claims made by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, who asserted that Obi would not secure a ticket from any party.
Bwala, speaking on Channels Television, suggested that Obi would only serve as a Director-General in the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) and claimed that Obi had lost a significant portion of his voter base from the previous election.
In reaction, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, a member of the Obidients’ State Coordinating Council in Abia, challenged Bwala’s assertions as “suspicious” and called for transparency from the presidency regarding these claims. He emphasized that the Obidients Movement remains strong and is gaining support across the nation.
Obiesili dismissed Bwala’s statement about Obi losing voters as “wishful thinking” and insisted that Obi’s popularity is intact and even growing. He argued that many Nigerians who were misled by the APC’s promises in 2023 are now aligning with Obi’s vision for a better Nigeria.
He further criticized Bwala’s prediction of President Tinubu receiving significant votes from the South East, labeling it as suspicious and unfounded. Obiesili concluded that the Obidients Movement aims to create a new Nigeria founded on principles of accountability and transparency, urging all patriotic citizens to join the cause.
