A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, known as the Abia’s Best Interest Association (ABIA), has called on Governor Alex Otti to explain the significant rise in revenue the state has received from the federation account since 2023.
At a press conference held in Abuja, the group’s convener, Hon. Eze Chikamnayo, highlighted that despite a tripling of federal allocations under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Otti administration has not demonstrated corresponding improvements in the state’s infrastructure and public services.
Chikamnayo specifically criticized the state of the education sector, pointing out that, despite substantial funding and intervention programs, there has been little progress compared to neighboring states like Imo and Enugu, where public schools have been successfully renovated and modernized.
The group urged Abians to remain vigilant and demand full transparency and accountability from their government. Chikamnayo emphasized the importance of good governance reflecting tangible development across the state, stating, “The future of our children is at stake, and no government should be allowed to mortgage it under the guise of inflated or questionable expenditure.”
Regarding rumors of a potential defection by Otti to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, Chikamnayo asserted, “He wants people to believe he supports the president, but in Abia State, he is undermining Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He pointed to over N300 billion directed to Abia from Tinubu’s reforms, lamenting that local governments remain in a state of disarray. Chikamnayo firmly stated, “We will not receive such a liability into APC. Nobody in APC Abia wants anything to do with Alex Otti.”
The group’s statements underscore the growing discontent with the current administration and the urgent call for accountability in the management of state resources.
