The former President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Peter Esele, has expressed his disappointment over the actions of Fuji artist Wasiu Ayinde, known as K1 De Ultimate, regarding airport regulations. Esele criticized K1’s alleged refusal to comply with security measures after a viral incident where the musician attempted to block an aircraft from taxiing.
ValueJet Airlines reported that K1 was barred from boarding flight VK 201 from Abuja to Lagos due to his insistence on carrying a liquid flask exceeding the permitted 100ml. Despite repeated requests to comply, he allegedly opened the flask and poured its contents on the flight captain and others nearby.
Esele stated, “Aviation laws are clear; liquids over 100ml are prohibited unless medically necessary and declared.” He lamented the culture of impunity in Nigeria, where influence often overrides accountability. He emphasized that this incident reflects a broader issue of lawlessness, where those in power feel exempt from consequences.
He further remarked that apologies should not replace justice, urging for a system where laws are applied equally to all, regardless of status. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has placed K1 on a no-fly list for six months pending an investigation into the incident, which Esele believes should prompt swift legal consequences rather than mere apologies.
Esele concluded by advocating for a society where accountability prevails and civic education is emphasized to restore public values.
