The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has stated that only the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) can determine the next steps in the case involving fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM1, following his recent public apology.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu told Saturday Beats on Friday that petitions against the musician have already been forwarded to the AGF and IGP for necessary action. This comes after a viral video showed KWAM1 in a heated confrontation with ValueJet Airline officials at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, allegedly delaying a flight’s departure.

The altercation drew nationwide condemnation, prompting the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the NCAA to impose a six-month flight ban on the singer, while the pilots involved were suspended and placed under investigation.

KWAM1, in a statement and accompanying video, described the incident as “unfortunate” and denied allegations that his flask contained alcohol. He claimed he suffers from chronic dehydration and had filled the flask with water in the airport lounge, a fact he said could be confirmed by CCTV footage.

Despite the apology, Achimugu emphasised that the NCAA does not have prosecutorial powers, adding that the decision now rests with the AGF and IGP. Minister Keyamo also acknowledged seeing the apology online but said the matter would still require deliberation.
