The Edo State Government has downplayed the political relevance of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, asserting that he is “the least of our worries” as the state gears up for the 2027 general elections.
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohonbamu, dismissed any concerns regarding Obi’s ability to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) both in Edo State and nationwide.
Ohonbamu criticized Obi’s governance credentials, claiming that the former Anambra State governor lacks a coherent and actionable blueprint for Nigeria’s development. He remarked, “Ask him what he will even do when he becomes president, and he’ll simply say, ‘Let me get there first.’ There is no clear-cut plan.”
Furthermore, Ohonbamu questioned Obi’s political influence in his home region of the South East, challenging the notion that the Labour Party is gaining traction. He pointed out that Enugu is governed by the PDP and Anambra by APGA, questioning where Obi’s supposed dominance lies.
He concluded by stating, “Peter Obi is just struggling with errors. I can assure you, his defeat is a fixed deposit,” emphasizing the APC’s confidence in maintaining its political stronghold as the 2027 elections approach.
