As tributes continue for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, a former Director of Public Affairs at NAFDAC, has urged Nigerians to direct their anger towards the cabals within the government rather than the late president himself.
In a statement, Dr. Jimoh described Buhari as a “pious, honest, patriotic and nationalistic statesman” whose plans for Nigeria were undermined by a powerful inner circle. He argued that the same individuals who were entrusted with power ultimately betrayed Buhari’s vision for the country.
Dr. Jimoh recounted a conversation with former First Lady Dr. Aisha Buhari, who expressed her disappointment over the performance of certain government officials and governors. He emphasized that while Buhari held ultimate responsibility, understanding the internal sabotage could lead to a more forgiving historical perspective.
He also cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to closely monitor his own advisors to avoid similar pitfalls, warning against the dangers of a detrimental “kitchen cabinet.”
Concluding his appeal for forgiveness, Dr. Jimohcited religious teachings from both Islam and Christianity, urging Nigerians to move forward in unity. His remarks come in the wake of Buhari’s recent passing, which has sparked discussions about his legacy and the complexities of his presidency.
