The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded an explanation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his five-day absence from public view following the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The President returned to Nigeria early on Sunday, July 13, but had not been seen since the summit concluded on July 7, raising concerns about transparency in his administration.
In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, the party expressed disappointment over the President’s unexplained delay in returning to Nigeria. They noted that while other world leaders resumed their duties promptly, Tinubu’s silence has left Nigerians uncertain about his whereabouts.
“A whole five days is significant in the life of a country, especially a country like ours battling with several existential challenges of insecurity and a tottering economy,” Abdullahi stated. He criticized what he described as a pattern of unexplained absences under Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting similar instances in the past.
The ADC warned that these mysterious disappearances erode public trust and undermine the President’s ability to confront the serious issues facing Nigeria. They emphasized that a President who disappears without explanation cannot be trusted to address the nation’s crises.
The party’s call for transparency comes at a critical time as Nigeria grapples with worsening economic hardship and rising security threats. Abdullahi concluded that the administration’s lack of open communication raises questions about its commitment to good governance.
