A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, has issued a stern warning to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, advising him against serving as a vice-presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 elections.
In a viral video, Yesufu, a well-known socio-political activist, asserted that she would actively oppose any presidential ticket that features Obi in a deputy role. She believes Obi is the most qualified aspirant and deserves to be the presidential candidate.
“I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket. In my little capacity, I will work against them even if I don’t support any other candidates. Why are we always asking the best to be the second?” Yesufu stated.
Obi has recently joined the ADC, a party supported by a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu. He is among the aspirants vying for the party’s nomination. However, there are indications that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may emerge as the party’s flagbearer and potentially select Obi as his running mate.
