The federal government has issued a warning to political opportunists seeking to exploit the recent killings in Benue State and other regions for electoral gain in the upcoming 2027 elections. National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, representing President Bola Tinubu, delivered this message during an official visit to express condolences to the people of Benue.
During his visit, Ribadu highlighted the government’s deep concern over the ongoing violence against farmers by bandits. He emphasized that the president and his cabinet stand firmly with the victims and reiterated the commitment to combat the violence.
Governor Hyacinth Alia reported that the death toll from the attacks by herdsmen has risen to 72, underscoring the urgent need for action. Ribadu promised that the government would work collaboratively to address the security challenges faced by the state, which is crucial for Nigeria’s food production.
Local leaders, including the Ter Tyoshin and Ter Ukum, shared the devastating impact of the violence, revealing that many families have been displaced and livelihoods destroyed. They called for immediate government intervention to restore peace and security, expressing hope that the government’s presence would lead to positive change.
The federal government aims to foster dialogue and collaboration to ensure the safety of farmers and the return of normalcy in the affected areas.
