Lagos entertainer and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, popularly known as Pretty Mike, has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million following his arraignment in a Federal High Court in Lagos on charges related to drug offences. The hearing took place on Thursday, with Pretty Mike appearing alongside the club’s supervisor, Joachim Hillary, who also faces charges.
The Federal Government, represented by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), brought a three-count charge against the duo, which includes conspiracy, unlawful possession, and permitting illegal drug activities on the premises of Proxy Lagos Night Club, located at No. 7, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island.
During the court proceedings, NDLEA prosecutor Buhari Abdullahi stated that the alleged offences occurred on or around October 26, 2025, and that during a subsequent operation, agents recovered 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa and 177 cylinders of Nitrous Oxide (commonly known as laughing gas), totaling 364.662 kilograms.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following their plea, Defence counsel Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN) requested bail, arguing that neither defendant had a prior criminal record and would be present for trial. He maintained that the prosecution had not provided sufficient reasons to deny bail.
In contrast, Abdullahi opposed the bail request, suggesting that the defendants did not present adequate facts to justify their release.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa ruled in favor of the defendants, granting them bail on the grounds that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Each was required to secure bail with two sureties of equal value and to provide affidavits of means.
The defendants were released to their counsel pending the fulfillment of bail conditions, and the case has been adjourned to January 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
