Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has announced a peaceful protest for October 20 in Abuja to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Sowore has reached out to several prominent figures, including governors, lawmakers, and religious leaders, urging them to join the demonstration. He specifically mentioned contacting Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021. He faces charges related to terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement before the Federal High Court in Abuja, which he has consistently denied. His trial was adjourned to October 16 due to the inability of the Nigerian Medical Association to present its report on his health status.
