The Obidient Movement has expressed serious concern over a video in which Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo threatens Peter Obi, warning that he would not guarantee Obi’s safety should he return to the state without prior notice.
In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Nana Kazaure, the movement condemned the governor’s remarks as unconstitutional and dangerous. Kazaure emphasized that Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees every Nigerian’s right to move freely within the country.
The statement pointed out that this is not the first instance of such threats against Obi, referencing a previous incident involving the Governor of Benue State. The Obidient Movement described these threats as part of a disturbing pattern of intolerance and political pettiness, especially as Obi engages in humanitarian efforts.
The movement warned that if any harm comes to Obi, the responsibility would fall on those making such threats. They called on Nigerians, civil society organizations, and the international community to condemn this political hostility, asserting that no politician should be allowed to incite division and fear through reckless rhetoric.
